The Wabash BBQ restaurant was not always a restaurant. Constructed in 1927, this brick building was originally a railway station. As a staple building within the early Excelsior Springs community it housed passengers waiting to board the railway. Through the years it has been a milk-dairy station for industrial use along with a small restaurant that was then purchased by locals for their printing company in 1990. As that business grew and moved to another building, the station was purchased in 1997 and remodeled to what we now know as Wabash BBQ. During the remodel, the owners kept the changes to a minimum as a respect for its history. The restaurant is located in the Elms Hotel Historic District, being eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Wabash BBQ is well known for the awards received for their chicken, ribs, smoked meats and bands entertaining customers. Image may be subject to copyright
